Root canal treatment
|Root canals treatments are recommended when there is an infection deep within the tooth. The pulp inside the tooth can become infected with bacteria because of an injury or because of a severe, untreated cavity.
What to expect
For your comfort, we will numb your gums with a substance that feels like jelly. After your gums are numb, we will inject a local anaesthetic that will completely numb your teeth, gums, tongue, and skin in that area.
We will then separate the decayed tooth from the other teeth with a small sheet of rubber on a metal frame. This protective rubber sheet also helps stop liquid and tooth chips from falling down and entering your mouth and throat. Using tools and a drill we will then remove the pulp from the tooth and fill the inside part of the tooth below the gum line with medicines, temporary filling materials, and overlay the top with a final root canal filling. To finish the treatment we will fit you with a crown to go over the filling. First, we will take an impression in order to design a crown that perfectly matches your drilled tooth. We will fit you with a temporary crown until the permanent crown is made and cemented into place the next day.
